Why we built it
Commercial real estate has always been an insiders' market. Entry tickets start in six figures, the best deals move by phone call, and finding out who owns a building and what's attached to it means paying specialists. Brokers don't have it easier. A large share of commercial listings never reach a modern marketplace, and the ones that do sit behind expensive tools built a generation ago.
Our co-founder and CEO, Arun Aravindakshan, ran into all of it as a residential investor.
That was 2019. Since then we've built Hutfin the long way: bootstrapped, with the founders committing $850K of their own capital, more than 500,000 lines of code, over 200 APIs, iOS and Android apps in the stores, and brokerages listing on the platform, all before asking anyone outside the company for a dollar. We think that order matters. A marketplace should prove it works for brokers and investors before it asks for capital, and the discipline that comes with spending your own money is a habit worth keeping.
"It was in the 2016 to 2018 timeframe that I started investing in residential real estate, and I became curious about how commercial real estate operated. I'd be walking in a mall and wondering how much that space got leased for. The industry is much behind the curve in technological advancement. My vision at the time was that you should be able to walk into a building, look up your phone, and see the estimated SqFt value on the actual SqFt. Hence we created Hutfin."

An MIT-certified CRE analyst and retired U.S. Army officer with more than a decade of experience in enterprise technology, including cloud architecture and consulting roles with globally recognized multinational companies, he started Hutfin in 2019 in Virginia Beach to make premium commercial real estate investable at small ticket sizes.
Sreekutty Babu
Sreekutty Babu is co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Hutfin. She leads product strategy for fractional ownership, AI-driven matching, and Hutfin's proprietary READOT ownership-records framework, with a background in blockchain product development and award-winning hackathon teams.
Akhil Venugopal
Akhil Venugopal leads engineering at Hutfin across the web platform, the iOS and Android apps, and the backend services.
Ava Vonfyler
Ava Vonfyler leads marketing at Hutfin: brand, content, and the channels that bring brokers and investors to the platform.
Behind them is a team of about 20 across the United States, Canada, Europe, Middle East and South Asia.
How we operate
The product is access: a share of a real building at a real ticket size. Every feature earns its place by making that simpler.
The listing side is free, with no upfront cost and no hidden fees. A marketplace with empty shelves helps no one, so we took the price off putting things on the shelf.
Ownership and property history are verified and viewable from a phone. Trust shouldn't require a specialist.

No institutional capital to date. We spend like it's our own money because it is, and we'd rather ship than announce.
